ASUNCION, Paraguay (14 September 2014) - PGA TOUR member Andres Romero showed all his talent in the Final Round of the Carlos Franco Invitational Copa Samsung to end his three-year drought without a title.
The Argentine, who won the 2008 Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the PGA TOUR, posted an 11-under 277 at Carlos Franco Golf Club. He edged local hero Carlos Franco, by one shot.
Argentine Maximiliano Godoy, who led for the first 54 holes, had a final-round 77 to finish third, three off the pace.
Romero started Sunday five strokes behind Godoy but didn't stay down long. He opened quickly, converting three consecutive birdies on holes 4-6 to close on the leader. He hit a rough patch mid-round, however, dropping shots on holes 7, 8 and 11.
After those mistakes, Romero showed the best of his golf going 6- under in five holes with birdies at 12, 13, 15 and 16 and an eagle at 14. That stretch put him in line for the victory.
Franco, who owns the golf course in the outskirts of the Paraguayan capital, carded a bogey-free 67 in the final round.
This event, the seventh of the Developmental Series. was a qualifier for the Final Developmental Series to be played in Ecuador from 12 to 18 January 2015 and give to those who finish in the top 5 full status for the 2015 season of PGA TOUR Latinoamérica.
