Mar del Plata, Argentina (January 11, 2014) – NEC Series-PGA TOUR Latinoamérica member Nelson Ledesma, an up-and-coming 23-year old from Tucuman, Argentina, won the 96th playing of the Abierto del Sur - 3 Arroyos presented by OSDE this Saturday afternoon. The tournament marked the start of the 2014 season for the Tour’s Developmental Series at the historic Mar del Plata Golf Club.

Ledesma carded a 2-under par 68 on the final round to finish the week at 268 (-12) for a come from behind victory over his countryman Emilio Domínguez, the player who had entered the final round holding the lead. Domínguez stayed ahead for most of the final day and ended up losing by one.

“This is great! I didn’t really expected to play so well this early in the year. I’m ecstatic and proud about winning a tournament as important and full of history as the Abierto del Sur,” commented Ledesma, a native of Tucuman who is getting ready to play his third season on NEC Series-PGA TOUR Latinoamérica beginning next month at the Arturo Calle Colombian Open, an event where he collected runner-up honors in 2012 for his best career finish in 25 starts on Tour.

Ladesma made only one bogey on the windy final day in Argentina’s premier links course. His birdie on 16 and a par putt he made on 17 were critical. “I knew the tournament was going to be decided right at the very end, so I had to stayed focused until the last hole. I hit a great approach on 16 and then I guess I was lucky to make that par on 17 after I hit it way past the hole with my first putt… I felt very much in control throughout the final day and I knew it was going to depend on who would made the putts over the final stretch,” said the young man who now owns four career titles.

Overnight leader by one, Domínguez was able to stretch his lead to two strokes after a birdie on 10. However, he made bogey on 11, 13 and 16 to surrender the lead.

This season a total of five players – those without NEC Series-PGA TOUR Latinoamérica status for 2015 – from each Developmental Series event will be eligible to play the Final that will award five full cards and five conditional cards for the Tour’s 2015 season.
