Becker made three eagles on the back nine on Sunday (E.Berardi/PGA TOUR)
Becker takes OHL Round of the Week
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (November 10, 2014) - Brazilian Rafael Becker had a perfect Sunday afternoon at Gavea Golf & CC when he scored a 7-under 62, with a cool 29 in the back nine. His stellar round gave him the win at the Aberto do Brasil/Aberto do Atlantico presented by Credit Suisse Hedging-Griffo and also the OHL Round of the Week award.
The 23-year-old Brazilian recorded three eagles on the back to win by three strokes. He had started the day with a bogey on the first hole, but quickly rebounded with a birdie on the par-5 third hole.
The fireworks started on the drivable par-4 11th hole. Becker left himself six feet for an easy eagle. On the par-5 13th, he holed out from a bunker for his second eagle of the day.
"I saw Cañete got to 12-under, like me, but then I made birdie on the 15th and I did not want to think anymore because 16 and 17 are difficult holes that you have to play with your head. I did not want to know how much was coming because I was very focused, " Becker said.
He closed with a 40-foot putt for eagle on the par-5 18th to earn his first victory on PGA TOUR Latinoamerica.
This is the third week that the tournament winner has earned the OHL Round of the Week. The previous two winners were William Kropp (Abierto OSDE del Centro, Córdoba, Argentina) and Tyler McCumber (TAPP CRV Open Mazatlan, Mexico).
