Derek Gillespie wins the OHL Round of the Week
LIMA, Peru (November 3, 2014) -- Canada's Derek Gillespie's 8-under 64 has earned him the OHL Round of Week Award at the Lexus Peru Open presented by Scotiabank.
Gillespie began the tournament with a round of 77, but rallied on Friday with a 66 that allowed him to make the cut. On Saturday he continued to improve on the greens of Los Inkas Golf Club and signed for a 64. He closed with an even-par 72 that left him tied for seventh place.
"I had a bad start to the tournament. I came from a long trip from Canada and I was not ready to start on Thursday, but on Friday I found something in my game on the greens that allowed me to improve and on Saturday I hit the ball very well," Gillespie said.
The 36-year old started his round with three birdies on the front nine and closed with five straight birdies on the last six holes. On the final hole, he rolled in a 30-foot putt for birdie.
Gillespie earned a $1,000 check that OHL awards for the lowest score of the week.
