BUCARAMANGA, Colombia ( February 24, 2014 ) - Manuel Merizalde put his name in the NEC Series-PGA TOUR Latinoamérica record books with a 10-under 60 Saturday at the 67th Arturo Calle Colombian Open presented by Diners Club.

His round goes down in history as the first 60, and the lowest round, in the three-year history of the tour.

“I just went out to put a good score," Merizalde said. "I played in the morning, with no wind for the first 15 hole. I really took advantage with my putter. I had many birdie chances and I was able to capitalize in pretty much all of them.” 

The 33-year old Colombian made eight birdies and capped his round with an eagle on the final hole to clinch the first OHL Round of the Week award of the 2014 season, tour record and the course record at Ruitoque Golf CC . 

“At some point I lost a little account of my score because I was really focused on the shot I was making,” he said. “I think I found a gift on 18, I had a bad lie there, but my shot (a 219-yard 4-iron) ended up about a meter from the hole for an eagle.”

Merizalde, who finished the event tied for fourth, is in his words "retired" and is playing just a few events during the year. He opened his third round with a par, but then came a succession of birdies (Nos. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7) that gave him a lot of confidence. At the turn he found birdies on holes 12, 13 and 16 leading up to his closing eagle.

Merizalde took the $ 1,000 check and becomes the first player this year to obtain this prize that will be at awarded every week this season.
